The Outreach Coordinator & Informal Educator Section promotes the public understanding of biology and the life sciences by supporting outreach coordinators, informal educators and others involved in biology education outside the traditional classroom setting. The section serves as a resource for the community by providing venues for communication, mentoring, and professional development at the NABT Professional Development Conference.

Every year, thousands of students and teachers benefit from unique learning opportunities designed by “teachers without classrooms.” At zoos and museums, science centers and field stations, and universities and scientific societies, outreach coordinators and informal educators complement traditional learning environments, enhance learning, engage students and support teachers. To better serve this community of biology educators, NABT has created the Outreach Coordinator & Informal Educator Member Section.

Join us for the Outreach Coordinators & Informal Educators section meeting at NABT 2010! Exchange ideas, participate in relevant professional development, learn  about professional development opportunities with BSCS, and join the community.

The section also sponsors a poster session where programs have a chance to reach out to NABT conference attendees. The theme for this year's poster session is "What online resources/courses does your program use to impact teachers on a local regional, national and/or international level?" Abstracts are due by October 1, 2010. Presenters will be notified by October 8th if the poster is accepted. Please submit your proposal online at 2010 OCIE Poster Session.

IMPORTANT: To present a poster, you must register for the NABT conference. Only proposals from conference participants will be considered. Please visit the NABT Professional Conference Web site (http://www.nabt.org/websites/conf2010/index.php?p=557) to register for the NABT conference.
