As Education Project Director at the National Center for Science Education, I am constantly reminded of the amazing explanatory power of evolution and I have a long-standing interest in understanding how evolutionary processes create and maintain biological diversity. I have done research on the genetic variation, courtship behavior, and pheromone communication in plethodontid salamanders; used quantitative genetic models to simulate speciation; and even had the opportunity to help describe a new species of salamander from northern California!
